Following the nationwide deployment of Operation Lion’s Roar – which put ZAKA’s existing protective gear stock to use across every district in the country – newly trained volunteers need 300 to 500 helmet and protective vest sets to form the reserve from which they are equipped as they complete their training and take the field. Each set costs the organization approximately $1,000.
ZAKA volunteers respond to emergency scenes that require them to work in unstable structures, hazardous environments, and active incident zones – and at times, scenes where missile or shooting threats are present. To do this safely, each volunteer needs a helmet and protective vest.
The helmet and protective vest are standard equipment for ZAKA volunteers operating at complex emergency scenes – enabling them to carry out searches, recovery, and Chesed Shel Emes work in environments that may include structural hazards, active fire, and missile threats.
